Unscathed

Today is a lazy day. I went to bed late and got up early with the kids. Wrapped up in my new pink robe that my husband got me for christmas, I curled up on the couch. The little ones curled up with me, under the blanket, digging icy little toes into the meat of my calf. It hurt and they won’t stop moving.

All I want is to snooze and the kids are crawling all over me. I try to placate them with shows. I’m a bad mother. I should have them outside playing in the freezing cold until their skin is pink and frozen with little boogercicles hanging from their noses.

It’s so hard to sleep when I keep getting jabbed, poked, prodded and tickled. My little monkey likes to get my toes and thinks it’s a game to try and uncover my feet while I squeal in an effort to keep them hidden.

It’s a rare occasion tonight; my mother is taking all three of them for a sleepover and my husband and I are going to have a date night. I truly hope that we’ll get through it unscathed by sharp words. I really want it to be a relaxing and fun evening.

I’m excited, waiting with baited breath.
